Staying fit and motivated to workout can be extremely hard! Here are a few ways that I do it!
-Staying fit has to be something you REALLY want to do. Everyone knows that it sounds great to say, "I'm a runner." or "I workout." but verbally claiming to be something and half doing it won't produce physical changes. When it's time to workout or run I always think about how beneficial it is to my body because as a young person I believe it is paramount to be active.
- One of my main motivators for working out is how much stress I relieve while running/ working out. I honestly don't even know how to describe how it clears my mind, but it does. I feel sooo much happier and positive after I workout !! It allows me to release all of my extra energy or frustrations from the week. During stressful times throughout the year, like exams, I put in double the effort to make sure that I workout. It keeps my levels of stress down considerably.
- Buy workout clothes and put them on. It sounds mega (favorite adj.) basic, but I have found that if I put my workout shoes on and whatever else then I'm much more likely to workout than sitting at my desk in my pjs thinking I need to workout.
- DRINK WATER! LOTS OF WATER!
- Not everyone can do this or wants to, but a personal trainer is really helpful! It makes you accountable to someone to workout. Most of the times we all have the intention to workout, but we don't think we have enough time. If you have an appointment with someone then you're going to go, especially since you're paying. $$
- Don't get discouraged by workout fanatics online or extremely hard routines. Be realistic with yourself. I used to start these extremely hard workouts and then get very frustrated with myself when I could only do one circuit or half of the workout. If you keep at the basics and realistic routines then someday you'll reach a more challenging level, but like most things in life it takes time and patience.
-Keep at it, because it takes time to see results!! I never believe the "abs in 30 days" post and you shouldn't either. For our bodies to change and get tone it takes time. Doing 50 sit ups one night will not get you a six pack the next day. Our bodies have to break down the fat and then build muscle. That takes TIME.
- Watch what you eat. Really basic, but something that we can easily forget. You can't stuff your face with a delicious Milos burger, fries, milkshake, and pie everyday and expect good or fast results. A major key is DISCIPLINE! Treat yourself, but not everyday. Become a salad lover, water lover, fruit lover etc.
- Workout with a friend because it is really motivational and a great challenge. When Shelby and I visit each other we workout together and it's great !! You can keep each other motivated and encourage each other along the way and is mega fun ! As you workout with others don't compare your bodies. You and your friend might do the same workouts and the same amount each month, but there will be a difference. There is a point where you have to accept if you are eating correctly and working out that that is good enough !! The focus won't be so much on weight, but living a healthy lifestyle. Being healthy is NOT a number, but a way of living. Also, while working out the scale might not be your friend because once you start burning fat and building muscle you'll gain weight.. in muscle. But only because muscle weighs more than fat. :(
- Be positive! Don't think of running or working out as a chore, but as a fun activity. You'll find that you'll begin to anticipate working out and miss it when you don't (hopefully). Try to remain positive about working out and just think about how great it is benefiting you now and how it will in the future.
